The Extending Service Life of Existing RC Pavements online PDH course is a part of the Civil Engineering category of courses.
This course provides information on best practices in rehabilitation strategies for extending the service life of continuously reinforced concrete pavements (CRCP). The procedures described consist of defining the problem, identifying potential solutions, and selecting the preferred rehabilitation alternatives. The rehabilitation strategies described comprise two categories: restoration and resurfacing.
Restoration activities preserve the existing pavement by repairing isolated or localized areas of distress in the CRCP and to prevent their reoccurrence by stopping or delaying the deterioration process. Restoration activities include preventive maintenance and repair methods. Restoration activities can be utilized either before or in conjunction with pavement resurfacing methods.
Resurfacing activities, or overlays, significantly increase the structural or functional capacity of an existing pavement. These treatments are not localized, but are applied over the entire surface of the existing pavement. Overlays are used when restoration techniques are no longer sufficient or cost effective, but before reconstruction is required.
When restoration and rehabilitation treatments are applied correctly and in a timely manner, the service life of an existing CRCP can be extended by 10 to 25 years or more without destroying the structural integrity of the existing CRCP.
This course is intended for civil engineers and other construction professionals interested in learning about Extending Service Life of Existing Reinforced Concrete Pavements through restoration and resurfacing.

- Evaluate CRCP through visual survey and deflection measurement
- Determine mechanisms causing CRCP distress such as cracking, punchout, spalling etc.
- Select criteria for rehabilitation of CRCP
- Apply various CRCP restoration techniques and procedures such as FDR, PDR, Diamond Grinding and Groving, Joint and Crack Sealing etc.
- Apply various CRCP resurfacing techniques and procedures such as BCOs, UBOLs and HMA
- Select appropriate materials for CRCP restoration and resurfacing

Length of the Course / Activity

To receive the certificate of completion for the above 5 PDH online course, you will need to take a 25-question multiple choice quiz based on the reference material supplied and pass with minimum score of 70%. There is no time limit for the quiz and it can be taken multiple times until a passing score of 70% is achieved.
Certificate of Completion
Once you achieve a passing score of 70% on the quiz you will receive and be able to print your Certificate of Completion as a record of your continuing education.
