CE-071 Activated Sludge Wastewater Treatment: 2 PDH
Description of the Activated Sludge Wastewater Treatment course
The Activated Sludge Wastewater Treatment online PDH course is a part of the Civil Engineering category of courses. This course discusses the activated sludge process employed extensively throughout the world in its conventional form and modified forms, all of which are capable of meeting secondary treatment effluent limits at wastewater treatment plants. This discussion presents the different modifications of the conventional activated sludge process, including general bases for design, methods of aeration, and design factors for aeration tanks, final sedimentation units and sludge handling systems. All designed processes include preliminary treatment consisting of bar screen as a minimum and, as needed, comminutor, grit chamber, and oil and grease removal units.
This course will give environmental and civil engineers and other design and construction professionals an introduction to the design, construction and process control considerations for activated sludge wastewater treatment plants.
This course is intended for civil, environmental and sanitary engineers and other design and construction professionals wanting an introduction to wastewater treatment using the activated sludge process.
At the end of the course, you will:
- Learn about the conventional activated sludge wastewater treatment process;
- Learn the fundamentals of step aeration;
- Learn about the contact stabilization activated sludge process;
- Learn about the closed-loop reactor, also known as an oxidation ditch, form of the extended aeration process;
- Learn how to apply closed loop reactor design criteria;
- Learn about induction aerators and how they are applied; and
- Learn the challenges in implementation of sludge dewatering and disposal.
