E-003 Basic Concepts of Alternating Current: 3 PDH

Description of the Basic Concepts of Alternating Current course content
The Basic Concepts of Alternating Current 3 hour PDH online course is a part of the Electrical category courses. This course provides guidance on alternating current concepts and main differences between ac and dc currents.
Alternating current (AC) is an electric current which periodically reverses direction, in contrast to direct current (DC) which flows only in one direction. Alternating current is the form in which electric power is delivered to businesses and residences, and it is the form of electrical energy that consumers typically use when they plug appliances into a wall socket.
This course is based on Chapter 1 of Module 2, “Introduction to Alternating Current and Transformers” of the Navy Electricity and Electronic Training Series (NAVEDTRA 14173).
This course is intended for use by electrical engineers, construction professionals, students and others interested in learning about the AC concepts.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:
- State the differences between ac and dc voltage and current
- State the advantages of ac power transmission over dc power transmission
- State the “left-hand rule” for a conductor
- State the relationship between current and magnetism
- State the methods by which ac power can be generated
- State the relationship between frequency, period, time, and wavelength
- Compute peak-to-peak, instantaneous, effective, and average values of voltage and current
- Compute the phase difference between sine waves
Refunds and Cancellation Policies
The course is accepted by the Professional Engineering boards in states listed on this page. In an unlikely case the course is not accepted by the board listed on this page, we will refund the full payment and will pay for you to take another course of equivalent monetary and PDH / CEU value.
