The Fall Protection in Construction online PDH course is a part of the Health and Safety category of courses. This course provides guidance on fall protection requirements and systems used in the construction industry. It also presents information on other hazards that require fall protection as well as protection from falling objects.
Historically, falls are the leading cause of fatalities in construction, accounting for about one-third of all fatalities in the industry. For example, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that there were 384 fatal falls to a lower level in construction in 2016, out of 991 total fatalities.
OSHA recognizes that incidents involving falls are generally complex events, frequently involving a variety of factors. Consequently, the standard for fall protection deals with both the human and equipment-related issues in protecting workers from fall hazards. This course is intended to help better understand the Fall Protection in Construction standard’s requirements and the reasons behind them.
This course is based on OSHA document OSHA 3146-05R 2015 “Fall Protection in Construction”.
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will have increased understanding of fall protection requirements and systems used in the construction industry.
This course is intended for use by all architects, engineers, land surveyors, design and construction professionals, health and safety officers, students and others interested in learning about fall protection in construction.
Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Explain Subpart M requirements for fall protection in construction workplace
- Discuss types of fall protection to be used in construction
- Explain conventional fall protection systems (guardrail, safety net, fall arrest)
- Discuss fall restraint systems and additional fall protection systems
- Examine additional hazards that require fall protection such as holes, excavations, wall openings
- Describe measures to prevent injuries from falling objects

This course is intended to be studied at self-pace and it should take on average of 3 hour to read and be able to comprehend the material to successfully past the online quiz
To receive the certificate of completion for the above 3 PDH online course, you will need to take a 15 question multiple choice quiz based on the reference material supplied and pass with minimum score of 70%. There is no time limit for the quiz and it can be taken multiple times until a passing score of 70% is achieved
Certificate of Completion
Once you achieve a passing score of 70% on the quiz you will receive and be able to print your Certificate of Completion as a record of your continuing education. PDH Star will keep a record of your certificate for the duration as required by your state of licensure. You will be able to log on to your account and view and print your past Certificate of Completion
