Residential Wood Deck Construction Guide
The Residential Wood Deck Construction Guide 3 hour PDH online course is a part of the Structural category courses. Hundreds of wood decks get built every year and some without the proper guidance for designing or constructing a safe deck. This course includes guidance on provisions for the 2015 International Residential Code (IRC) pertaining to single level residential wood deck construction. Provisions contained in this course that are not included in the IRC are considered good practice recommendations.
This course is based on American Wood Council document “Prescriptive Residential Wood Deck Construction Guide”.
This course is intended for use by architects, civil and structural engineers, design and construction professionals, students and others interested in learning about residential wood deck design and construction.

- Identify deck provision changes from the 2015 IRC
- Identify minimum prescriptive wood deck requirements
- Describe deck construction including wood members and fasteners
