The Antiterrorism Standards for Building Design online PDH webinar is a part of our group of on-demand online webinars. This webinar is an introduction to terrorism threats and their mitigation.
The webinar discusses the location, size, and nature of terrorist threats that are unpredictable. In this webinar, we discuss a specific range of assumed threats that provides a reasonable baseline for the design of all inhabited buildings. Designing to resist baseline threats will provide general protection today and will establish a foundation upon which to build additional measures where justified by higher threats or where the threat environment increases in the future. While those baseline threats are less than some of the terrorist attacks that have been directed against personnel in the past, they represent more severe threats than a majority of historical attacks. It would be cost prohibitive to provide protection against the worst-case scenario in every building. The terrorist threats discussed in the webinar are assumed to be directed against personnel. During the webinar the following topics are discussed:
- Baseline threat
- Controlled perimeter and access control
- Levels of protection
- Applicable explosive weight
- Standoff distances
- Unobstructed space
- Building occupancy levels
- Laminated glass and polycarbonate
- Exempted building types
- Policies and procedures
This course is intended for architects, civil engineers and other professional engineers and construction managers interested in design of facilities resistant to terrorist threats.
At the end of the webinar, you will be able to:
- Discuss the location, size, and nature of terrorist threats, which by their nature are unpredictable;
- Understand baseline explosive weights;
- Describe how vehicle bomb are assumed to be a stationary vehicle bomb, and the assumption inherent in the stationary vehicle bomb is that the aggressors want to park the vehicles covertly without being noticed as doing anything unusual;
- Determine threats from waterborne vessels
- Determine threats from indirect fire weapons; and
- Determine threats from direct fire weapons.

Length of the Webinar / Activity
This webinar duration is approximately 50 minutes to 1 hour.
To receive the certificate of completion for the above 1 PDH online webinar, you will need to take a 10-question multiple choice quiz based on the material covered and pass with minimum score of 70%. There is no time limit for the quiz and it can be taken multiple times until a passing score of 70% is achieved.
Certificate of Completion
Once you achieve a passing score of 70% on the quiz you will receive and be able to print your Certificate of Completion as a record of your continuing education. PDH Star will keep a record of your certificate for the duration as required by your state of licensure. You will be able to log on to your account and view and print your past Certificate of Completion.
