Site Safety (Worker) Training Requirements
To obtain the Site Safety (Worker) SST card, Local Law 196 of 2017, requires that construction and demolition workers on job sites with a Construction Superintendent, Site Safety Coordinator, or Site Safety Manager to complete:
– 10 hours of safety training
– 30 hours of safety training by December 1, 2019
– 40 hours of safety training by September 1, 2020
There are two ways to meet 30 hour training requirement by December 1, 2019:

Option 1: Complete a 30-Hour OSHA course

New Entrants
If you start working after December 1, 2019, you must complete the OSHA 10-Hour course before you start work and within six months complete the following courses to obtain the required 40 hours of training to continue working:

Important Dates to Remember

SST Supervisor Training Requirements
Local Law 196 of 2017, requires Supervisors at job sites requiring a Construction Superintendent, Site Safety Coordinator or Site Safety Manager receive 62 hours of safety training by December 1, 2019. This only includes Site Safety Managers, Site Safety Coordinators, Concrete Safety Managers, Construction Superintendents and Competent Persons designated by Construction Superintendents.

Required Training for Competent Persons
Supervisor SST Cards are required if you serve as the competent person, as specified by Section 3301.13.12 of the New York City Building Code. Section 3301.13.12 requires a Construction Superintendent designate a Competent Person for each job site he/she is responsible for and that the designated Competent Person must always be present at the job site active work occurs.
